In the days leading up to the release of the new Narrow Street Films movie, Michael Lawrence: the Season of Darkness, we'll be showcasing one new character every two weeks. Get to know the cast and try to guess whodunnit! Name: Charles Stewart Position: Dean of Noble College Category: Suspect Played by: George McTyre (Excerpt from the book:) Lawrence said, “We suspect that he and Sarah Hopper were a couple and that drugs were involved. Now, I know she studied under Emma. Any chance that…?” Professor Stewart almost recoiled at the suggestion. “Absolutely not.” He sounded insulted. “Emma Gagnon was above such things.” “How about her ward, Bridget?” That seemed to amuse him. “Oh,” he said airily. “I wouldn’t think so, no. I doubt she’d taken the time. Our Bridget is a driven woman – one can only hope that her talent equals her ambition.” While Lawrence was recovering from that surprising piece of criticism, Stewart’s phone buzzed. The professor reached over and picked up the receiver, “Yes?... Oh, right, tell them I’ll be a minute.” He hung up and looked to Lawrence. “I have another appointment waiting for me. Was there anything else?” Lawrence took a second to study the man. He was charming, well spoken, and steeped up to his hairline in college life and academia. In a way, he was Noble College. Being dean was the role he had been made to play and it was a part that he obviously loved, right down to the nitty-gritty of fundraising and parent soothing. Professor Charles Stewart, then, was probably the most content man Lawrence had ever met. And yet… Yet, there was still something….Like Bridget Madden and Samantha Harris, Professor Stewart was role-playing and Lawrence had never liked masquerades. Stewart was waiting for an answer, not that he expected anything but a quick and immediate exit. He had practically dismissed the detective from his office and it was his experience that people were so much in awe that they usually obeyed with alacrity. Lawrence felt no such compunction, but there was no reason to stay any longer. He got to his feet, buttoning his coat. If the professor wanted to role-play, he could oblige. “That’ll do for now.” The slight emphasis on the last two words made the professor’s eyebrows raise a hair. “You aren’t planning any more overnight trips, are you?” That amused the great man. “Why, detective?” he purred. “Do you really expect me to skip town?” George McTyre is a New England based actor, singer and performer originally from Dallas, TX.
