As of last night, I just finished the first draft edits on Necessary Evil. Now comes the fun part - the cover and the first beta reader's review. Honestly, I am so excited about this book, it's not even funny. It's a little darker, a little deeper, and a little more romantic than anything I've done before.
I'll be posting a sneak-peek chapter soon. Until then, here is the first draft back cover copy. Like it? Hate it? Leave your comments below and let me know!
Life can change in the blink of an eye. What once ran safely, predictably, can be derailed in an instant...
As irretrievably as a train running into a granite mountain.
My name is Madeleine Warwick. On a bright, beautiful June morning, on a back trail I’ve been riding since I was four years old, my life changed forever.
I’ve been picking up the pieces ever since.
My life is under siege.
Several years ago, my family was featured in a treasure hunting reality show, which resurrected the folklore of a Civil War treasure buried somewhere on our property. Ever since, amateur treasure hunters have been invading our land. When their negligence caused the death of my Uncle Michael, I forged a letter to disprove the treasure's existence.
It should have stopped them.
But it didn't. The trespassers returned, and with them came Professor Gregory Randall. He's arrogant. Annoying. A famous author, expert historian, gifted detective - he’s the kind of man who can unearth much more than
a buried treasure.
And he knows my secret.
Gregory can ruin me with one phone call, but he won't. At least, not as long as I help him search for the fabled treasure. Being forced to work alongside my blackmailer is infuriating - especially since for some reason, I can't seem to get him out of my head.
Things are starting to get dangerous. Very dangerous. Someone is trying to beat us to the treasure, and they aren’t afraid to use violence to get there. Now my blackmailer is becoming my protector, and he's making my safe, predictable life more complicated than I ever thought it could be.
I’m definitely under siege - and my first line of defense is the last man I can trust.
